Literature Text

Saturday morning you and Lily dressed back into your normal, muggle clothes and went off to Diagon alley for supplies.

“Here you can find all the best stuff, trust me” – Lily hopped cheerfully

“I trust you” – you smile at her

“So what do you want to get first? Books? A Broomstick? a Cauldron?”

“A pet”

“A pet?” – suddenly her voice gets higher “Alright, Hogwarts allows a choice between an owl, a toad or a cat, which one are you going for?”

“A snake”

“A snake?!” – Lily widens her eyes “Did you not hear the selection that Hogwarts allows?”

“Oh please, if they didn’t allow any other pet there wouldn’t be a boy called Hagrid from the younger year running around with a spider”

“Who?”

“Don’t worry” – you shake your head “I also want to get a rabbit”

“A rabbit?” – she looks even more surprised than when you told her you wanted a snake

“Yeah. White and fluffy. Preferably with long ears” – you smile at her stunned face

“A rabbit and a snake……. So uhm. What made you think it’s a good idea to keep the two together?”

“The fact that rabbits are adorable and snakes are cool?” – this sentence was only partly the truth. Since the truth was that you were hoping to get good ol’ Tom’s attention with the snake since he was fascinated by them himself, including the fact that he could speak to them.

“I don’t know” – she looks down at her feet then back at you “Two pets that are against the school’s rules?”

“That’s the fun of it, it is against the rules” – you wink at Lily, playfully

“Well… Alright… If that’s what you want…” – she murmurs

“Promise you won’t tell anyone who’d might throw me out for it?”

“They wouldn’t throw you out but would demand you to get rid of it”

“Exactly. It would break my heart” – you glance at Lily, trying the best to look at the reflection of the sun to make your eyes seem more shiny, creating a puppy-like expression so she’d feel pity

She sighs “Okay… fine. I know just the place”

She leads you into a couple stores until you find the perfect place for your desired animals. Eventually, out of the hundreds that were there, you chose your final two pets.

There it was, a greyish white rabbit staring right at you, laying on top of its warm little blanket

You and Lily were immediately taken over by its cuteness

“Okay, I am definitely okay with this” – Lily giggled, petting the fluffy animal

After you chose the rabbit, you chose the snake. A Black and yellow Mangrove snake

After looking at it, Lily turns at you with concern “Alright, I don’t know what your mind is going through with this one”

“Don’t worry about it” – you reassure her

“You do realise that the snake can eat your rabbit, right?”

“Well I’m not buying the rabbit as its food, am I?”

“Hope not.”

“Just relax, Lily, It’ll be alright.”

You left the store happily. Lily was carrying the little cage with the cute, little bunny in and you were carrying the one with the snake.

“This is such a bad idea” – the ginger erupts

“Why are you so stressy?”

“I’ve never broken any rules before… it’s just…” – she sighs “Give me some time, okay? I’ll get used to it”

You nod saying nothing.

You proceeded to get what you needed for the school, that included the book “Fantastic beasts and where to find them” by Newt Scamander and “Defensive magical theory” by Wilbert Slinkhard”

“I don’t think there’s anything else you need” – Lily stood happily, looking at the things you bought “Ready to head back?”

“Yep”

The two of you got on your broomsticks (you on your freshly bought, best edition broom at the time) and set off for Hogwarts.

-------- ------- ------------ ----- --------------------------
At Hogwarts, you had the whole afternoon to set up. On the way to the common area of Gryffindor you noticed that Tom was sat in the courtyard again, reading another book. You placed your books and other stuff in your room except for your pet snake and rabbit. Mary and Molly were shocked at your shopping’s but they come to love the rabbit, just not the snake.

Aware that your target is there, you offered the group to go sit in the courtyard and chill, maybe even have a picnic, to which they easily agreed to.

You took the snake out of its cage, at which other girls got startled by but you were not afraid of your pet so you laid it on top of your shoulders. You held still as it wiggled around your body, giving you cold shivers. Not of fear, but rather due to its slimy texture, which you were a bit grossed out by.

You kindly requested that Lily held the rabbit out of its cage as well. She questioned it but eventually she agreed as you made an excuse about it getting used to its surroundings.

So now you had the snake wrapped around your shoulders, Lily was squeezing your fluffy little creature in her hands, Molly was carrying the picnic basket as Mary carried the cloth to sit on.

On the way to the courtyard, you head quite a few startled yelps. Clearly, they were just fearful reactions towards the creature on you.

“Freak.” – one girl stated as she stared at the black and yellow snake’s eyes

“Don’t listen to them” – Lily whispered in your ear

“I couldn’t care less” – you smile at her

Out in the courtyard, Mary set up the cloth at the very exact spot that you picked. Which was about 20 footsteps away from Tom, facing him diagonally from the front, therefore you could still catch glimpses at him reading his book from where you were standing. Molly set down the basket and laid out the food

“Make sure your new pets don’t grab them” – she glances at your snake

“oh it won’t” – you glance back at the focused on his book Tom “I got other plans for it”
